Around the Isle of Wight in 65 miles

Congratulations to Lukas and Rahim on completing their walking (and little bit of cycling) expedition around the Isle of Wight. Unfortunately, Charlie was not able to make the trip in the end but Jemima, Phebe, Kezia and Si, all from the Urban Adventure Base in Tower Hamlets, were also able to join in the adventure.

This was a first for many of them; first major trip out of London for some, a first for orienteering and map reading, first camping out in a tent, a first learning to cook on a camp stove, a first for working as a team and supporting each other, leading to their successful completion of the 65 mile hike around the island. They managed to take in many of the Isle of Wight’s sights and attractions on the way, and Lukas even on got to celebrate his 18th Birthday on the trip. Despite a few sore limbs and feet, they had a fantastic time and have kindly shared their experiences in a diary chronicling their trip. All credit to Alex Watson and her colleagues from Urban Adventure Base for organising another brilliant trip, providing a really inspirational group of young people the opportunity to challenge themselves in the great outdoors and experience something totally new. Jemima’s own words seem to encapsulate the feelings of the whole group “The trip has made me a more confident person and I proved to myself that I’m capable of more than I think”.

We are so pleased to have been able to support the expedition and as always, a huge thank you to all our supporters for helping make this happen.
