Building a legacy

With your support, our funding really does help change young people’s lives. Working recently with Clifton Hill School - https://clifton-hill.surrey.sch.uk/ - a special educational needs school, we’ve been able to help them get their Duke of Edinburgh Scheme off the ground through funding the purchase of tents, rucksacks and other essentials.

The Cam and Bear Fund has shown us as a school that no matter what your disability or background there is always someone out there willing to help.” (Shane - Head of Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, Clifton Hill School)

Many of the students are on ‘Pupil Premium’ and simply would not ordinarily be able to afford to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme. Through your support and funding we have not only been able to help students to participate this year but, as the kit was purchased through the school, it can be passed on to other students over the next few years.

It’s been great getting feedback from some of the students participating and hearing how the scheme has really helped them develop their confidence and learn new skills:

When I signed up for DofE I didn’t really know what to expect and if I could do it due to my disability , however I quickly learnt that DofE does not discriminate against ability and that I could do anything.” (Ashley)

“DofE allows me to be pushed out of our comfort zone and to break the barrier that people with disabilities are different and don’t have the ability to understand things. DofE has taught me to read map symbols, create a menu, volunteer in my local community and a wide range of other skills and experiences that I could not have normally had access to.” (Alex)

A huge thank you to all our supporters in helping Clifton School make this happen but we really need your help to generate more funding to other schools and young people like Alex and Ashley reach their full potential. Please share our message, donate or consider nominating us as your chosen charity for any sponsored event or challenge you may be participating in.
