Congratulation to Louis and Isa, our next grant recipients, in support of their expedition to climb Kilimanjaro.
The expedition is being organised by the Shadwell Basin Youth Project, London, to take a a small group of young people from the local community to Tanzania, ascending just under 6000m up Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest freestanding mountain in the world. The trek, in October 2020, will take the group from tropical jungle, through five climate zones, culminating in a night time ascent to the summit in arctic conditions.
Whilst in Tanzania, the group will also work on a project with Street Child Tanzania, which takes children with no families from the streets to a safe place where education, stability and care form the basis of a new life.
As part of the preparation for Kilimanjaro, the group are also climbing the UK’s 3 highest peaks; Scafell Pike (Endland), Snowdon (Wales) and Ben Nevis (Scotland). You’ll already have seen an ‘update’ on our Facebook page from their Scafell Pike climb.
All the members of the group are contributing to fundraising the £35000 needed for the expedition, and Isa and Louis have certainly been playing their part already, raising funds from supermarket packing, cultural food nights and selling their ‘old stuff’! Louis and Isa are both aspiring youth leaders with ambitions to go on and do more big adventures and more humanitarian work.
We wish Isa, Louis and all the group they very best and are proud to be supporting them with what will undoubtedly be a fantastic adventure and life changing opportunity.
